A bunch of local artists are celebrating Dolly Parton’s 70th birthday this month with a party at the Bijou Theatre to support the East Tennessee country-music legend’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children under the age of 5. The tribute show will feature more than a dozen artists performing Dolly songs, a reading by Circle Modern Dance founder Mark Lamb of his story, “A Boy and His Dolly,” and film clips of Parton’s performances in Knoxville during the 1950s and ’60s.
The show, set for Tuesday, Jan. 19 (that’s Parton’s actual birthday), will feature Nancy Brennan Strange accompanied by Robinella, Nathan Barrett, Angel Collins, Michael Crawley, Mischa Goldman, Christina Horn, Kelle Jolly, Laith Keilany, Ben Maney, Jodie Manross, Sean McCollough, and Sarah Pirkle.
“I am so honored to pay tribute to the living legend Dolly Parton on her 70th birthday at the Bijou Theatre,” Lamb says in a Facebook post. “My story is not only a personal take on her positive influence on my life, but has a universal message told through Dolly’s lyrics about love, kindness, and acceptance.”
Tickets are $20 and are available online and at the Tennessee Theatre box office or by calling (865) 684-1200.
