The 5th Annual St. Patrick’s Day 5k paradoxically enticed runners with pizza and beer from Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria in the Old City on Sunday, but it was all for a great cause: Emily’s Power For A Cure. EPFAC is a foundation with a mission to raise funds and awareness for neuroblastoma research.

Elkmont—The Ghost Town of the Smokies

Established in 1908 by the Little River Lumber Company, Elkmont was a logging town connected by railroad and at the center of an untouched forest. Trains coming off the Smokey mountains would use the community as a place of rotation so another locomotive could transport the timber for cutting. Photos by Chet Guthrie

Dragonfly Aerial Arts Studio : Kids Circus

Dragonfly Aerial Arts Studio in North Knoxville provides circus classes for children, helping them build self-esteem, physical agility, and social skills. Dragonfly has worked with Pond Gap Elementary School, Boys and Girls Club, Emerald Avenue Youth, and the Knox County Public Defender’s Community Law Office. (Last weekend’s Circus Extravaganza raised funds for the program.)
