Changing the Game:

The Center for Sport, Peace and Society at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville has a rather big mission. It was founded four years ago by Sarah Hillyer and Ashleigh Huffman, two down-to-earth former basketball players driven by their passion to use sports to empower women and, well, change the world. They’ve been successful. Each year, the Global Sports Mentoring Program brings 17 women with leadership potential from around the world to the U.S. They work on a concrete plan to tackle one of the challenges faced by women or children in their home country. The women return to their communities so empowered that they create a ripple effect, improving the lives of thousands of women and children around the globe. And it all starts here in Knoxville, as S. Heather Duncan reports in her extensive cover story, Game Changers: How UT’s Center for Sport, Peace, and Society Empowers Women Around the World.
